The Maremma Natural Park includes a coastline of more than 9,000 hectares, from Principina a Mare to Talamone. 

Most of the park is characterized by the Uccellina Mountains, a chain of hills parallel to the coast and covered by thick Mediterranean Scrub, including century-old olive groves. 

These hills reach their maximum height at Lecci Hill (Poggio Lecci), 417 meters above sea level. Terminal swamps of the mouth of the Ombrone River fall into this territory. They are still wild and characterized by rich biodiversity. 

They feature interesting species of swamp birds, such as ducks, geese, and swans, little egrets, herons, flamingos, and certain types of birds of prey, like the fish hawk, which was recently reintegrated.

The fauna, typical of maquis, includes wild boars, roe deer, fallow deer, porcupines, badgers, snakes, and many birds. 

The Maremma cattle, together with the rather wild local breed of horses, are still bred at the foot of the Uccellina Mountains. 

The coast, approximately 20 km, is fringed by long sandy shores stretching from the Ombrone Mouth to Cala di Forno, where the Uccellina Mountains fall steeply into the sea, with cliffs extending to the promontory of Talamone.
